Synthesis of Galactose
The molecule lactose, is the molecule
that galactose originates from. When lactose is broken down by lactase, glucose
is created and this is where galactose comes from. Galactose originates from
glucose which is created only when glucose is in its highly active form, then
biosynthesis happens and galactose is created. This is the natural synthesis for
the molecule of galactose which is used for energy, and to help form or coat the
cell membrane. This is essential to all living organisms in the animal kingdom
because without the synthesis of this molecule, those organisms would not exist
because they would have no cell membrane.
Without the molecule lactase, lactose would not be broken down and glucose would not be made. If glucose could not be made there would be no galactose. Galactose is produced in the human body when lactose (milk) is consumed. This is because once the milk enters the
stomach, lactase is released and the milk is broken down into glucose and then
galactose. Those who are lactose intolerant are not able to get as much
galactose in their system as one who is able to consume milk. People who are
lactose intolerant lack the molecule lactase and therefore are unable to break
down lactose. So this is why pills full galactose and glucose are made, for
people with these disorders so this way they are able to consume enough glucose
and galactose for their cells.
